In the final game, the Sixers lead after each of the first 3 quarters, then had their usual 4th quarter melt down. Allen Iverson played well, but didn't get much help from his teammates. Kyle Korver averaged just 5 points per game in the series, which hurt the Sixers a lot. Recap of Game

I would say that the season was a success because the Sixers did not get to the playoffs last year. For next year, the Sixers need to resign Samuel Dalembert this summer and Allen Iverson and Chris Webber need to learn to play better together. They will have the whole summer to work on it, so hopefully it gets accomplished. Hopefully the Sixers make some off season moves in free agency as well..

Sixers face playoff elimination tonight

The Sixers trail their best of seven playoff series 3-1, and can be eliminated from the playoffs tonight with a loss. The Sixers lost on Sunday in overtime 97-92 in a game they should have won. They were leading by 9 with just over six minutes left in the game, and let their lead diminish. They trailed by 1 at the end of regulation when Willie Green was fouled with 3.1 seconds left. He went to the free throw line to shoot 2 and hopefully put the Sixers in the lead and most likely win the game. However, he looked scared on his first free throw and almost airballed it. He made the second free throw to tie the game and send it into overtime. Then in overtime Rasheed Wallace hit some clutch 3's to give the Pistons a big lead. The Sixers had a chance to tie it with a 3 pointer at the end, but Kyle Korver threw up a horrible shot that had no chance of going in. The Sixers failed to give Allen Iverson shots towards the end of regulation and overtime, which hurt them. Also, Kyle Korver has been a non-factor so far in the playoffs. The Sixers will have to play their best basketball tonight to steal a win away from the Pistons.

Sixers win at home. The final score of the game was 99-84 .

However, when the Sixers brought the series back to Philadelphia yesterday, there was a similar trend, but different result. This time the Pistons lead after the first quarter and lost the rest of the quarters to the Sixers. Allen Iverson played amazing scoring 37 points and dishing out 15 assists in the Sixers 115-104 victory. The Sixers shot 55% from the field as a team in this game against one of the best defensive teams. Box Score and Recap .

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://phillysixers.blogspot.com/2005/04/sixers-win-at-home-series-at-2-1.html' title='Sixers win at home. Then they do what the Sixers have been doing all season, self-distruct. The final 3 quarters of the game, the Sixers were outhustled, outrebounded, and outcoached. The Pistons just wanted the game more. They were crashing the boards to get rebounds, while the Sixers were just standing under the basket waiting for the ball to come to them. The Sixers also played terrible defense, leaving the Pistons hottest player, Rasheed Wallace, shoot wide open jumpers. The final score of the game ended up being 106-85. Box Score and Recap

The next game of the series is on Tuesday, and if the Sixers want to win, they are going to have to play thier best. This is a series, not just one game, so the Sixers need to put the last game behind them.

Sixers to play Detroit in first round of playoffs

The Sixers beat the Atlanta Hawks last night to clinch the 7th spot in the playoffs. They could have had the 6th seed, but the Bulls couldn't hang on to beat the Pacers last night. The Sixers will be playing the defending champion Detroit Pistons in a best of 7 series and analysts are giving the Sixers no chance to win the series. They keep billing the series as Allen Iverson vs. his former coach Larry Brown and saying that the Sixers will only win 1. I feel that this is a bad draw for the Sixers, but feel that they do have a chance to take the series, probably just because I'm a fan. The first game is on Saturday at 3pm.

Here is the schedule for the series:
Detroit vs. Philadelphia
Saturday, April 23, at Detroit, 3 p.m. (ABC)
Tuesday, April 26, at Detroit, 7:30 p.m. (NBA TV)
Friday, April 29, at Philadelphia, 8 p.m. (ESPN)
Sunday, May 1, at Philadelphia, 1 p.m. (ESPN)
x-Tuesday, May 3, at Detroit, TBA
x-Thursday, May 5, at Philadelphia, TBA
x-Saturday, May 7, at Detroit, TBA
(x - if necessary)

Sixers clinch playoff spot with win over Bucks!

The Sixers easily defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 122-106 to clinch a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. They maintained the 7th seed and moved closer to the Celtics with another win Saturday over Washington 112-106. This win was huge, because it was an away game without their two stars, Allen Iverson and Chris Webber. Willie Green stepped up huge to fill Iverson's shoes.

The Sixers' next game might be one of their biggest games this season. They play the Boston Celtics on Tuesday, and if they win, they will be 1 game behind the Celtics for the 3rd seed in the playoffs. The bad news is that they might be without Allen Iverson again because of his two sprained thumbs. Willie Green will need to step up again if the Sixers plan to win without Iverson.

Sixers survive....again

The Sixers almost blew another huge lead in their game versus the expansion Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday. This time, they were up 25, and the game ended up going down to the last posession with the Sixers winning 106-103. Allen Iverson lead the team again with 48 points. Box Score

This was most likely the Sixers last game without Chris Webber, so they survived 2 games without him. Tonight, the Sixers have a big game versus Cleveland. If they can beat Cleveland, they will be tied with Cleveland for the 7th seed in the playoffs.

Sixers survive comeback and beat the Celtics

The Sixers were winning by 25 points after the first quarter yesterday vs. the Celtics, and managed to hold on for the win, beating them 97-93. Allen Iverson played amazing, as usual, scoring 38 points with 9 assists and 6 steals. With Chris Webber out, a few other players stepped up to help the Sixers earn the victory. Samuel Dalembert had 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Josh Davis surprisingly came off the bench and helped the Sixers first quarter run.

With the win over the Celtics, the Sixers are now only 3 games behind the Celtics for the third playoff spot. Looking at the schedules for the two teams, I feel that the Sixers have a legitimate shot of getting the third seed. Chris Webber just needs to get healthy, and other players need to step up. Another bonus for the Sixers is that Antoine Walker of the Celtics may be out for a week with a knee bruise. The Sixers next game is Wednesday vs. the Charlotte Bobcats, which should be an easy victory.

Sixers still holding on to last playoff spot

While I was away, the Sixers went 1-3 with a win over the Lakers, and losses to the Kings, Suns, and Mavericks. This wasn't too surprising because these were tough games on the West Coast. Putting those games behind, the Sixers have a very important game today versus the Boston Celtics on national television. The Celtics lead the Sixers by 4 games for the Atlantic division lead. If the Sixers can win this game and their game against the Celtics on March 12, they will only have to make up 2 other games to get the 3rd seed in the playoffs. Hopefully that will happen, but being realistic, the Sixers are probably going to be battling for the 8th playoff spot with the Magic and Nets. They will be without Webber for a few more games, so this might be a tough challenge. A positive note about the playoff race is that the Sixers don't have a very tough schedule remaining, with 6 of their 10 games remaining at home. I will update you later on the Sixers and Celtics game that starts at 1:00.

Iverson and Webber Carry Sixers to Victory

The Sixers beat the Toronto Raptors last night by a score of 103-101. Allen Iverson played great scoring 39 with 10 assists and 5 steals. Chris Webber also had probably his best game as a Sixer scoring 19. Rookie Andre Iguodala recorded his first career triple double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, and was the first rookie to do it since Kirk Heinrich last year. Box Score

Although the Pistons were without Richard Hamilton, the Sixers looked great. They are still holding onto the last playoff spot in the East. If they continue to play like they did last night, they will have no problems making the playoffs. It was also good to see Aaron McKie getting more playing time. I feel he needs more minutes, taking some of Korvers minutes. McKie does it all, rebounding, steals, 3-point threat, while Korver is a liabilty of defense.

Sixers 1-1 over the weekend

There were actually some NBA games that went on this weekend, although not many people paid attention to them with all the great NCAA tournament games going on.

The Sixers beat the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday 93-81 as Allen Iverson outshined Lebron James. Chris Webber sat out this game with a leg injury, but the Sixers still should have won.

Allen Iverson wasn't too impressed with the refereeing in the Bulls game, and was very angry after a late charge was called on him. Iverson was yelling at the ref, and the ref apparently said that he would "whup his ass." Iverson didn't like that much and had to be restrained by teammates and "a few minutes later was seen heading in the direction of the referees' dressing room before general manager Billy King interceded and calmed him down." The Sixers allowed the Raptors to set the NBA record for 3 pointers in a single game. They also allowed Donyell Marshall, who doesn't even start for the team, set the NBA record for most 3's in a game by an individual player. The Sixers actually shot the ball well (over 50%), but their defense was so terrible, they endedu up losing the game 128-110. Recap

The Sixers have a game tonight against the LA Lakers. Hopefully the fans greet scumbag Kobe Bryant with some boos like they usually do. The Sixers need to get back on track if they hope to get into the playoffs. Boston is so hot right now, so first place in the division is a stretch. They may need to battle it out for the 8th position in the playoffs, in which they are currently 1 1/2 games out of. The Sixers sent Corliss Williamson, Brian Skinner and Kenny Thomas to the Kings for Chris Webber, Matt Barnes, and Michael Bradley. Allen Iverson finally has a star to play along side of him.
